Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, CLEAN SWEEP became fractious and got down behind in its stall. CLEAN SWEEP was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred while the Stewards considered whether CLEAN SWEEP had had an unfair start. It was established that as the start was effected CLEAN SWEEP sat back in its stall, then bounded in the air, resulting in it losing a considerable amount of ground. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed CLEAN SWEEP had not had an unfair start and as such the horse was deemed to be a runner and weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, CLEAN SWEEP will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. From a wide barrier, FULL PACK was allowed to drift back in the early stages. Making the turn at the 1200 Metres, KING PRAWN SUPREME got its head on the side and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of SUNNY GOLF which when crossing to the lead got its head up and was reluctant to stride out. As KING PRAWN SUPREME shifted out, EXPRESS WIN was carried wider on the track and then allowed to stride forward. Near the 200 Metres, SIR GALAHAD became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of GRAND STORE, then for some distance after the 100 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running. For the major part of the race, VENI VEDI VICI travelled wide and without cover. K T Yeung (SUMMERVILLE POWER) explained on jumping his mount bumped with KING PRAWN SUPREME and then stumbled. He said SUMMERVILLE POWER became unbalanced and lost ground. He said he then rode his mount along in an endeavour to improve his position, however, making the first turn steadied SUMMERVILLE POWER when awkwardly placed inside GOODY which at this time shifted in slightly. He said after this the action of SUMMERVILLE POWER caused him concern. He said as the horse is well known to him and was not striding out as it usually does, he then did not persevere in riding his mount throughout the race. K T Yeung was told his explanation would be reported. SUMMERVILLE POWER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUMMERVILLE POWER after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUMMERVILLE POWER, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUMMERVILLE POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOODY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GOODY after the race did not show any significant findings. SIR GALAHAD, SUNNY GOLF and EXPRESS WIN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports <30/10/2008>
SUMMERVILLE POWER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SUMMERVILLE POWER was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. As previously advised, SUMMERVILLE POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
