Racing Incident Report
BINGO KEY was slow to begin. TRAVEL KING began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with COMPACT YARN which also shifted in after being bumped by SUPREME YEARS. Near the 1200 Metres, TRAVEL KING got its head up when racing in restricted room between NEW IDEA and COMPACT YARN which was bumped by SUPREME YEARS which shifted in when proving difficult to settle when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPECTACULAR AWARD. Then near the 1100 Metres, TRAVEL KING was steadied when crowded for room inside COMPACT YARN (H W Lai) which shifted in. H W Lai was advised to ensure he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside in future. Throughout the race, NAMJONG HUNTER, AMBITIOUS OWNER and WIN WIN FELLOWSHIP travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of BEAUTY EXPRESS in the early part of the Straight, Apprentice K W Leung said that after speaking with Mr Y S Tsui, the trainer of the horse, it was felt that BEAUTY EXPRESS has only a relatively short sprint. He said for this reason Mr Tsui instructed him not to place the horse under significant pressure until after the 350 Meters. He said accordingly he balanced BEAUTY EXPRESS in the early part of the Straight and after passing the 350 Metres commenced to ride the horse out. He said BEAUTY EXPRESS initially responded well to this riding, however, its run finished short of the finishing line. When questioned, J Lloyd (SUPREME YEARS) stated that after being hampered near the 1200 Metres, his mount was inclined to over-race and for this reason he did not allow the horse to maintain its position to the inside of SUPER FIGHTER but rather he elected to allow it to shift in and obtain cover behind that horse. He said when he did this SUPREME YEARS proved very difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of SUPER FIGHTER for some distance. He said when this happened, SUPREME YEARS was jostled for room between BINGO KING and TRAVEL KING which at this time shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of COMPACT YARN. He said for this reason he was not able to maintain his running between TRAVEL KING and BINGO KEY. He said this resulted in SUPREME YEARS travelling further back in the field than had been anticipated. J Lloyd was advised that his riding of SUPREME YEARS between the 1200 Metres and the 800 Metres had come under notice and that he should have made more effort than he did on this occasion to maintain his running firstly to the inside of SUPER FIGHTER and then later to the inside of BINGO KEY. He was further advised that his riding of SUPREME YEARS during this part of the race fell short of the standard expected of a rider of his experience and that at all times he should ride his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query. A veterinary inspection of NAMJONG HUNTER and NEW IDEA after the race did not show any significant findings. NAMJONG HUNTER, SPECTACULAR AWARD and COMPACT YARN were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on TRAVEL KING at the request of the trainer. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. <17/6/2010 Additional Veterinary Report> NEW IDEA, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. NEW IDEA was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C S Shum this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, NEW IDEA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
