Racing Incident Report

JERRY MAGUIRE was crowded for room at the start between FLYING SMART and WITHINMYHEART which shifted out and away from OCEAN WIDE. In this incident, JERRY MAGUIRE bumped the hindquarters of FLYING SMART on a number of occasions, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced and shifting out which resulted in ROCK’N TYPHOON having to be steadied away from the heels of FLYING SMART shortly after the start. BESPOKE MASTER and BONDI LAD bumped at the start. After the 1100 Metres, FREE AND EASY and SHINING TRIUMPH bumped, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, NEW GLORY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHINING TRIUMPH. Passing the 500 Metres, WITHINMYHEART raced tight inside FLYING SMART which itself was racing tight inside SHINING TRIUMPH. Making the Home Turn, JERRY MAGUIRE made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced. In the early part of the Straight, NEW GLORY got its head on the side and lay in. Over the concluding stages, NEW GLORY was steadied when racing in restricted room between BONDI LAD and ROCK’N TYPHOON which shifted out. Because of this, NEW GLORY was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Throughout the race, SHINING TRIUMPH travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, B Prebble stated that it was felt that MASTER RIO, from barrier 10, did not have sufficient speed to cross runners to his inside and obtain a position close to the fence, so for this reason he was instructed to take MASTER RIO across behind runners in the early stages and if possible obtain a position close to the rail. He said passing the 700 Metres he was obliged to ride MASTER RIO along to maintain its position inside BESPOKE MASTER as MASTER RIO was reluctant to maintain this position. He said he rode MASTER RIO vigorously after the 600 Metres to have it improve its position and in the Straight the horse finished off the race well. He added after the race he suggested to Trainer K L Man that they consider adding blinkers to the horse’s gear in its future races. FREE AND EASY and OCEAN WIDE were sent for sampling.
