1 J420  MARKWIN  06/10/2024   80  MARKWIN (J420) from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After passing the 400M was held up for clear running until near the 200M. After passing the 100M, when finishing off strongly, shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with a runner. When questioned, rider explained that he had specific instructions to ride his mount with cover with a view to ensuring his mount could finish the race off strongly. He said entering the Home Straight near the 400M he was initially endeavouring to try and shift out to obtain clear running between runners, however, was unable to do so without causing interference to another runner in the process as he was not sufficiently clear. He further stated that after being held up for some distance he made the only other decision available to him which was to shift back in to secure a run inside. He added that he then had difficulty again inside the final 100M obtaining clear running between the eventual winner and the 3rd placegetter. Trainer confirmed the pre-race instructions. The Stewards, having the benefit of considering his explanation and reviewing the patrol films, were satisfied that his explanation for his decision-making in the early part of the Home Straight was reasonable in that instance - Race 080.
