Racing Incident Report

GIFT IS GIFT was crowded for room at the start between MASQUERADER and I SMELL MONEY which shifted out. After this, GIFT IS GIFT was taken across behind runners.
KING OF REASON shifted out at the start and bumped CHEETAH BOY which became unbalanced.
From a wide barrier, RICH UNICORN was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, GIFT IS GIFT was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of COSMIC BOOM which shifted out.
Rounding the turn near the 700 Metres, I SMELL MONEY was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BOULD MOVER.
After the 700 Metres and again in the Straight, MASQUERADER, which was racing wide and without cover, got its head on the side and hung out.
Approaching the 600 Metres, SIMPLE raced tight between COSMIC BOOM and BOULD MOVER.
Passing the 600 Metres, SIMPLE became unbalanced when bumped by COSMIC BOOM which shifted out slightly.
When questioned regarding his riding of COSMIC BOOM particularly in the early stages, T Clark stated that he had been asked to ride the horse in a forward position behind the leaders if possible. He said after beginning fairly he allowed COSMIC BOOM to get balanced and improve its position inside of runners. He said he observed that BUNDLE OF LOVE and LONDON CHINA TOWN were being ridden along to obtain forward positions in the early stages and he felt that it was in COSMIC BOOM’s best interests to allow these two horses to improve forward of COSMIC BOOM. He said he did give consideration to allowing COSMIC BOOM to improve its position to be racing inside LONDON CHINA TOWN and behind BUNDLE OF LOVE near the 1000 Metres, however, as LONDON CHINA TOWN was a horse which he considered to be a reasonable chance in today’s race and having in mind that that rider appeared intent on obtaining a forward position, he allowed LONDON CHINA TOWN to cross COSMIC BOOM near the 900 Metres. He said that after he allowed LONDON CHINA TOWN to cross, that horse did not maintain its position on the back of BUNDLE OF LOVE and a considerable margin developed between those horses. He said this resulted in COSMIC BOOM racing further back in the field than he had intended. He said had LONDON CHINA TOWN maintained its position on the back of BUNDLE OF LOVE as he anticipated, this would have resulted in COSMIC BOOM being in a more favourable position. T Clark added that he was aware that COSMIC BOOM had previously finished off a race strongly on the All Weather surface when ridden from back in the field from a wide draw and for this reason he believed that COSMIC BOOM would again be able to finish off the race strongly when obtaining clear running in the Straight. He said in hindsight he had erred in allowing LONDON CHINA TOWN to cross COSMIC BOOM, however, he felt that at the time this was in the horse’s best interests. Mr J Moore, the trainer of COSMIC BOOM, confirmed the instructions had been for COSMIC BOOM to be ridden behind the pace today. He said he was disappointed with T Clark’s ride on the horse as he felt that he should have made more use of it to obtain the position behind BUNDLE OF LOVE rather than allowing LONDON CHINA TOWN to cross. He said COSMIC BOOM possess speed and from the inside gate he believed that it was available to Jockey Clark to have COSMIC BOOM positioned, as he had asked, behind the leader which he felt would be BUNDLE OF LOVE. T Clark was advised that his riding of COSMIC BOOM in the early stages had come under notice and the Stewards had given consideration to whether he should be charged of having breached a significant Rule of Racing. He was severely reprimanded and advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have attempted to ride to his instructions and position COSMIC BOOM behind the leader, BUNDLE OF LOVE rather than allowing LONDON CHINA TOWN to cross his mount. He was further advised to ride his mounts in such a manner in future so as to ensure that they are ridden to instructions wherever possible and are able to avail themselves of more advantageous positions.
After the race, it was reported that BOULD MOVER had lost its left front plate.
A veterinary inspection of MASQUERADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
COSMIC BOOM, WINDICATOR POWER, CHEETAH BOY and BUNDLE OF LOVE were sent for sampling.
