Racing Incident Report

Apprentice K C Tsang weighed out to ride SEA JADE without leathers and stirrup irons. This necessitated Apprentice Tsang having to be re-weighed and the horse was late being presented in the parade yard. For his negligence, Apprentice Tsang was fined $2,000. The explanation tendered by W Woods (MONEY) regarding his being late weighing out was accepted. NEW DYNASTY, which was fractious after being boxed, missed the start very badly. Just after the start, PERFECT VICTORY was checked when crowded by GRANITE which was taken out abruptly by MUNDAHISH. Because of the serious injuries sustained by Apprentice C T Cheng following his fall from FOR MY WISHES, it was decided in the best interests of all concerned that preliminary inquiries be conducted. The Stewards have not only viewed all the available films with the utmost care, but they have questioned the following riders: W Woods (MONEY), W C Marwing (LASER PRIDE), Apprentice K C Tsang (SEA JADE) and from D Whyte (FLAMENCO STAR). Evidence was also taken from Mr J Moore, the allocated Trainer of Apprentice C T Cheng and the Trainer of FOR MY WISHES. The Stewards at this time do not think it appropriate to arrive at a final conclusion, but it was established that commencing to make the turn approaching the 800 Metres FOR MY WISHES, which was racing in blinkers and proving difficult for Apprentice C T Cheng to settle, was awkwardly placed about half a length back between SEA JADE and LASER PRIDE. Running towards the 800 Metres, it was apparent that MONEY, which was hanging out, inconvenienced LASER PRIDE slightly, causing that horse to shift out. At about the same time, SEA JADE was brushed on the shoulder by FLAMENCO STAR, was momentarily unbalanced and shifted in slightly. From the observations made by the Stewards and the evidence they have received at this time, they formed the preliminary view that as a result of the shifting from inside and outside FOR MY WISHES, which continued to be awkwardly placed, lost its running and its front legs made contact with the hind legs of LASER PRIDE, this appeared to cause the horse to fall. During the course of the inquiry, all riders interviewed stated that in the lead up to and at the time of the fall there was no appealing around them for more room. When FOR MY WISHES fell, PERFECT VICTORY and NEW DYNASTY were severely checked. Inconvenience was caused to AUTHORISED and ARRECTIS AURIBUS. A final conclusion will not be made by the Stewards until such time that evidence can be taken from Apprentice C T Cheng. Near the 200 Metres, ARRECTIS AURIBUS was shifted out to continue going forward. In the run to the winning post, ST ALANN shifted in, this caused some inconvenience to AMBITIOUS at about the 200 Metres. Throughout the race, MONEY hung out badly. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that SEA JADE was lame in its off side front leg. Before being permitted to race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subject to an official veterinary examination. Following the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said that FLAMENCO STAR had sustained lacerations to the inside of its near side hock. LASER PRIDE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. W C Marwing (LASER PRIDE) said the horse travelled satisfactorily in the run although wider than he had hoped as he was continually being hampered by MONEY which was hanging out. He said in the run to the winning post LASER PRIDE when giving ground was inclined to lay in. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that LASER PRIDE had sustained a laceration to the inside of its near side hind heel.
