Racing Incident Report

Due to a mechanical problem with the lift, the Judge, the Honorary Assistant Judge and some members of the Race Meeting Stewards panel were trapped in the lift for some minutes before the start of the race and were finally not able to be in position for the running of the race. Rule 27 states that the Judge or his authorised substitute must occupy the Judge's Box at the time the horses pass the winning post or the race shall be deemed to be void. The Deputy Judge, Mr C H M Cheng, who in the opinion of the Stewards, was an authorised substitute on this occasion, was occupying the Judge's Box at the time the horses passed the winning post. The Stewards accepted the numbers semaphored by the person they deemed to be the authorised representative and weighed-in was declared. PARADISE CHASE jumped awkwardly with its head up. IRON TYCOON was slowly away. About the 600 Metres, BEAUTIFULDAY shifted out and bumped IRON TYCOON. Shortly after this incident, IRON TYCOON shifted in and bumped BEAUTIFULDAY. As a consequence of this, PARADISE CHASE, which was following, was checked rather severely. For some distance near the 500 Metres, CROWN REGENT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SINCERELY YOURS and tight on the inside of DIAMOND KING. Approaching the 400 Metres, TRULY DELIGHTED brushed the running rail. On straightening, PARADISE CHASE, which was commencing to make strong ground, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of BEAUTIFULDAY which was weakening. Approaching the winning post, DIAMOND KING became unbalanced and threw its head about. C Brown (CASH FORTUNE) was reminded of his obligation to continue riding all his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post whenever possible.
