Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, OPEN TREASURE bounded in the air, shifted in slightly and bumped the hindquarters of WISHES. EASTERN TYCOON, which was to be ridden back, was slowly away. From a difficult gate, TUMBLER was obliged to race wide throughout, was not able to find any cover and pulled. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, UNIVERSAL GLORY hung out. Near the 200 Metres, OPEN TREASURE, which was making some ground, was severely checked and shifted out abruptly to avoid GRAND STAR which was weakening. When OPEN TREASURE shifted out, inconvenience was caused to FRUITFUL TRIP. About the 200 Metres, MILLENNIUM DAWN was steadied and shifted in to avoid LATIN DANCER. When asked about the poor performance of GRAND STAR, S Dye said the horse's last run was strong, since then he had ridden it at work several times, this work was very encouraging and it was expected GRAND STAR would run well today. He said he did not intend necessarily to lead on the horse, but was always planning to be towards the front. He said however the way the race was run in the early stages he was able to lead comfortably and GRAND STAR travelled satisfactorily until straightening, but when put under pressure did not respond and over the concluding stages was very disappointing. He said he was unable to put forward any real explanation for the run. In all the circumstances, the Stewards considered the performance of GRAND STAR to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GRAND STAR was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
