Racing Incident Report

SILVER JET was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (lame left fore). Before SILVER JET can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Before the race, GOLDCHIN BEST had its left front plate refitted. AMERICAN DEVIL left the gates very awkwardly, threw its head about and bumped JUST VICTORY. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY bounded in the air at the start. From a draw towards the middle, JUST VICTORY was wide throughout, from about the 1200 Metres in addition to being wide raced without any cover, then near the 800 Metres hung in rather badly and bumped TOP QUALITY and over the concluding stages dropped out. For some distance rounding the Home Turn, SMART WIN was awkwardly placed when close to the heels of PLEASANT SUCCESS and tight inside TOP QUALITY. After the 400 Metres, SMART WIN was shifted to the outside of PLEASANT SUCCESS to find running. Approaching the 400 Metres, I DELIVER shifted in slightly and bumped SCHOLARSHIP. G Mossé was allowed an opportunity of explaining the disappointing run of GOLDCHIN BEST. He was unable to put forward any real explanation. He did say GOLDCHIN BEST had been working well, from a good draw it was anticipated the horse would race well this evening. He said almost immediately after the start he had to ride the horse along to try and maintain a position, but GOLDCHIN BEST did not respond. He said in the middle stages he did ease up on the horse to give it a rest, but then before straightening when put under full pressure again, GOLDCHIN BEST did not respond at all and finished well back. GOLDCHIN BEST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GOLDEN BEST was examined. No abnormalities were detected. Before GOLDCHIN BEST can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. TOP QUALITY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, it was noted TOP QUALITY had lost its right front plate. MILLENNIUM DAWN and HOLY QUEST were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 5 Dec. 2002) :
After racing last night, GOLDCHIN BEST was examined. No abnormalities at that time were detected. However, the Club's Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr Brian Stewart, examined GOLDCHIN BEST at the stable of Mr K L Man this morning and he has now reported the horse is lame in both front legs. He said the soreness is more apparent in the horse's right front leg than it is in its left. He did say the lameness was probably the result of jarring of the horse's arthritic fetlock joints.
As reported, GOLDCHIN BEST must pass an official veterinary examination before racing again.
