Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted the tongue tie on PRETTY DOUBLE had loosened. This was re-tied prior to the horse being placed in the barrier. PRINCELY HORSE began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and became unbalanced. SUPER DANA was slow to begin. PRETTY DOUBLE shifted out abruptly on jumping and brushed KING OF SPADES. W M Lai (KING OF SPADES) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 600 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of PLATINUM EXPRESS, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, W M Lai's licence to ride in races was suspended until Wednesday 5 November 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 22 October 2003. Also after the 600 Metres, PRETTY DOUBLE became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by FANTASTIC WIN. In the Straight, STEP FORWARD hung out and near the winning post shifted ground and brushed GOLDEN MAPLE. Shortly after this, CUPID (Apprentice P H Lo) commenced to drift in whilst being ridden out and caused crowding to GOLDEN MAPLE on its inside which in turn caused crowding to STEP FORWARD. After the winning post, STEP FORWARD and GOLDEN MAPLE were checked when crowded for room between FANTASTIC WIN and CUPID. Apprentice P H Lo was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding his mount and straighten it sooner than he did on this occasion. Throughout the race, OLIVE OR TWIST raced in a forward position, however, was three wide without cover. K S Yu (FANTASTIC WIN) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in midfield. He said FANTASTIC WIN began well, he immediately rode along to take up a position behind SPEED WINNER which he felt would settle in 3rd or 4th position. He said when SPEED WINNER was able to hold the lead, he followed that horse in the run and consequently was further forward than was anticipated. STEP FORWARD, CUPID and KING OF SPADES were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SUPER COMBED had lost its left front plate.
