Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the barriers, the tongue tie on SOARING ANGEL was replaced. When the gates opened, L'ENFANT bounded in the air, then shortly afterwards was bumped by COSMO STAR which was carried in by SILLY BOY. On jumping, CHIU CHOW HERO shifted in and bumped DESERT ROMEO. FAMOUS BRAND began a little awkwardly, then brushed with QUEEN'S GLORY and shortly after this attempted to buck for a considerable distance and because of this was eased out of the race by P Payne, its rider. As FAMOUS BRAND had not performed in a similar manner previously, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being allowed to race again. Near the 1300 Metres, COSMO STAR, which was laying in, was steadied when crowded for room inside SILLY BOY which itself was being steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER BEST (F Coetzee) which was shifting in when not properly clear. F Coetzee was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to ensure he was properly clear before shifting ground. Near the 1000 Metres, LUCKY ENCOUNTER was momentarily steadied away from the heels of TEAM WIN which shifted in when barely clear. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SILLY BOY was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of COSMO STAR which at this time got its head on the side and shifted out. Passing the 400 Metres, LUCKY ENCOUNTER was held up and unable to improve when racing behind TEAM WIN and inside SOARING ANGEL. Near the 200 Metres, COSMO STAR, which was hanging out, was steadied away from the heels of DESERT ROMEO after being carried out by SILLY BOY which shifted ground when improving to the outside of the heels of SOARING ANGEL which at this time shifted out. In the circumstances, no action was taken. For the major part of the race, FORTUNE MAPLE raced wide and without cover. J Holder (TEAM WIN) said he had been instructed to ride the horse from a rearward position and to wait as long as possible into the Straight before making his run. He said TEAM WIN today began well and because of the manner in which the race was run in the early stages it found itself in a forward position, he therefore allowed it to stride forward and cross to the fence in the lead near the 1000 Metres to avoid being caught wide. Mr S T Wong, the trainer of TEAM WIN, confirmed the riding instructions issued to J Holder, the rider of the winner. FAMOUS BRAND was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. SUPER BEST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of FAMOUS BRAND and SUPER BEST after the race did not show any significant findings. TEAM WIN and SILLY BOY were sent for sampling.
