Racing Incident Report

Due to a misunderstanding at declaration time, R Fradd was declared as the rider of both STRONG GALLOP and BARFOLD HERO. It was established R Fradd had a firm commitment for BARFOLD HERO. Permission was given for S Dye to be substituted as the rider of STRONG GALLOP. In the circumstances, no action was taken. WIND WINNER began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. On jumping, HARVEST got its head up and shifted out abruptly. HALO KING PRAWN began awkwardly. Near the 1000 Metres, LUCKY GALLOPER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BARFOLD HERO which itself was being restrained away from the heels of SUPER CHARGE which steadied after crossing. At the 1000 Metres, HARVEST got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE BOY. After the 400 Metres, SANBENITO was shifted to the outside of HALO KING PRAWN to obtain clear running. Then for some distance approaching the 200 Metres when commencing to close the race off, SANBENITO was held up and unable to improve when disappointed for running between BARFOLD HERO and STRONG GALLOP. Near the 100 Metres, LUCKY GALLOPER, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of STRONG GALLOP and EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT. Throughout the race, STRONG GALLOP raced wide and without cover. J Holder (FORTUNE BOY) said he had been instructed if the horse began well, he should press forward in the early stages, then look for a position with cover and do his utmost to ensure it was settled and not over-racing. He said FORTUNE BOY began fairly from a barrier towards the outside, he allowed it to travel forward initially, it soon became apparent to him that a number of horses to his inside were being hard ridden to go forward, he therefore elected to steady FORTUNE BOY, shift back in behind runners to ensure the horse had cover and was settled. He said this resulted in him travelling further back than anticipated, however, when ridden in this manner today FORTUNE BOY closed the race off nicely. He said after the race he had advised Mr P F Yiu, the trainer of the horse, that in his opinion FORTUNE BOY is best suited ridden in this manner and consideration should be given to removing the blinkers from the horse in an attempt to have it settle better in its races. BARFOLD HERO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, BARFOLD HERO was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant abnormalities. CHAMP DRAGON and SUPER CHARGE were sent for sampling.
