Racing Incident Report

SUPREME STAR began awkwardly and then entering the Back straight became unbalanced after shifting out and bumping the hindquarters of UPPA HAND. On jumping, UPPA HAND was bumped by HORACE'S HORSE which bounded in the air and shifted in. Shortly after this, UPPA HAND then shifted out and bumped HORACE'S HORSE. Also on jumping, ROYAL EXCHANGE and GOLDEN DRAGON bumped. Approaching the 600 Metres, UPPA HAND hung in away from the heels of KAO AND MING. At the 600 Metres, TABBRIS, which was racing close to the heels of HONOURABLE, was checked away from that horse, shifted out and bumped UPPA HAND which was racing on its outside and in turn caused some inconveience to GOLDEN STRIDE outside it. SUPREME STAR, which was following, was checked away from the heels of UPPA HAND. Just prior to straightening, SUPREME STAR, which was held up, was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of UPPA HAND, then after straightening was shifted to the inside of UPPA HAND to obtain clear running. Near the 100 Metres, HONOURABLE was struck over the nose by the whip of G Schofield (KIMBO KID). A Delpech (GOLDEN DRAGON) reported on jumping his saddle shifted back noticeably and because of this he was placed at a disadvantage and in the Straight he was not able to ride his mount out as he normally would. R Fradd (ROYAL EXCHANGE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse behind the pace. He said ROYAL EXCHANGE began well, he had anticipated TAIJI SPIRIT which had drawn to his inside would be with the lead, he therefore near the 1100 Metres steadied in an endeavour to shift across to a position behind that horse with cover. He said when he did this, ROYAL EXCHANGE got its head up and raced ungenerously. He said after entering the Back Straight ROYAL EXCHANGE hung out and at the same time TAIJI SPIRIT did not continue forward and consequently he raced further back at this stage than was intended. He said after the 700 Metres he allowed ROYAL EXCHANGE which was continuing to hang to stride forward in the hope that the horse would relax and race more truly, however, it did not do so and making the Home Turn hung out badly. The performance of ROYAL EXCHANGE was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, ROYAL EXCHANGE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. J Holder (GOLDEN STRIDE) said he had been instructed to either lead or sit behind the pace if possible. He said GOLDEN STRIDE began fairly, he rode along in the early stages, however, KAO AND MING which had drawn inside him showed superior speed and as a consequence GOLDEN STRIDE settled in about midfield, however, in the early stages did not travel well. He said approaching the 600 Metres when the pace of the race steadied, GOLDEN STRIDE commenced to travel, however, shortly after when the tempo again quickened, the horse was left flat-footed, near the 400 Metres was steadied away from the heels of TAIJI SPIRIT which was giving ground in front of him, then in the Straight was steadied and shifted to the outside into clear running, however, did not quicken as he had hoped and was overall disappointing. GOLDEN STRIDE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOLDEN STRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was coughing and an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN STRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TAIJI SPIRIT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of TAIJI SPIRIT after the race did not show any significant findings. KAO AND MING, KIMBO KID and TABBRIS were sent for sampling.
