Racing Incident Report

ELITE WIN was slow to begin. JUSTINIAN and MAMOUSKA began awkwardly. Near the 1200 Meters, ELITE WIN was steadied away from the heels of SALUZI. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, MAMOUSKA was crowded for room inside SUNNY DESERT which got its head on the side and shifted in away from HORACE'S HORSE. At the same time, SALUZI was crowded for room inside SILVERBIRD which was racing tight inside the heels of RENA'S WUNDERBAR. After the 500 Metres, MAMOUSKA was reluctant to hold its position inside SUNNY DESERT. SALUZI, which was following MAMOUSKA, lost ground as a result. Prior to straightening, MAMOUSKA was checked when crowded for room inside SUNNY DESERT (A Delpech) which when making the turn shifted towards the inside of JUSTINIAN. A Delpech was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. Near the 100 Metres, SALUZI was steadied when disappointed for running between HORACE'S HORSE which shifted in and JUSTINIAN which at this time shifted out slightly away from SUNNY DESERT which itself shifted out. No action was taken. W Woods (HORACE'S HORSE) explained the intention had been to ride the horse with cover if possible. He said after beginning well he was aware runners to his outside were improving quickly towards the lead, so he allowed those horses to cross which provided him with cover near the 1300 Metres. He said then near the 1100 Metres JUSTINIAN which had been racing to his inside shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIRST KNIGHT which steadied in front, as a result of this he was carried three wide and then raced without cover. The explanation of W Woods was accepted. Mr D Cruz, the trainer of MONEY STRONG, said it had always been the intention if possible to lead with the horse, however, of recent times it had not been beginning as well as he would have liked. He said since the horse's last run he had taken steps to rectify the manner in which MONEY STRONG begins and tonight from the outside gate the horse after beginning cleanly was able to cross and race in the lead. The explanation submitted by Mr Cruz was accepted. BOUNTIFUL and RENA'S WUNDERBAR were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BOUNTIFUL and RENA'S WUNDERBAR after the race did not show any significant findings. JUSTINIAN, MONEY STRONG and SILVERBIRD were sent for sampling.
