Racing Incident Report

KING OF SPADES was slow to begin. ROMANTIC SYMPHONY was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between SHENANEGAN which shifted in and STEP FORWARD which was carried out by DEEP PURPLE. Near the 1700 Metres, DEEP PURPLE was steadied when crowded for room between STEP FORWARD and JUST TOO GOOD which shifted out momentarily. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, STEP FORWARD, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SHENANEGAN which itself was steadied to avoid the heels of FLORAL DANCER (Apprentice C K Tong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Tong was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. In the early and middle stages, CHINESE KID, which was racing in blinkers for the first time tonight, proved very difficult to settle. Near the 1000 Metres, DIVINE FEELING got its head up and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of CHERISHED. After the 600 Metres, STEP FORWARD was bumped by TATTLETALE. Just prior to straightening, STEP FORWARD was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHENANEGAN which was carried out by JUST TOO GOOD which shifted to the outside of CHINESE KID to improve. Near the 250 Metres, KING OF SPADES was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of CHINESE KID which was giving ground. After this, KING OF SPADES was again steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running. Also near the 250 Metres, DIVINE FEELING was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of CHINESE KID which continued to give ground. Near the 50 Metres, SHENANEGAN became unbalanced when brushed by ROMANTIC SYMPHONY which shifted out. Throughout the race, TATTLETALE raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, Mr A T Millard, trainer of ROMANTIC SYMPHONY, said in his opinion the improved performance of the horse in tonight's race is mainly attributable to it dropping to Class 4. He pointed out the horse has been ridden consistently in its starts. CHINESE KID was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, it was reported that CHINESE KID had bled from both nostrils. DOUBLE PLEASURE, ROMANTIC SYMPHONY and DEEP PURPLE were sent for sampling. An inquiry into the reason for CHERISHED being checked after the 200 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
