Racing Incident Report

COURAGEOUSHEART was withdrawn on 6.1.05 on veterinary grounds (mucus on scoping) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRIUMPH. Before being permitted to race again, COURAGEOUSHEART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GLOBAL FORTUNE, SCREAMING EAGLE and BALL OF FIRE were slow to begin. SHINING GEM began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, FAVOURITE RETURN commenced to race ungenerously, got its head up and shifted out away from the heels of SILVERBIRD. FAVOURITE RETURN continued to race ungenerously, on a number of occasions became unbalanced and making the turn at the 800 Metres hung out. As a result of this, TRIUMPH was carried wider. At the 700 Metres, SILVERBIRD was steadied away from the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE. At the 600 Metres, TRIUMPH, which was inclined to lay in, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of MURCIELAGO. Also at the 600 Metres, GLOBAL FORTUNE was momentarily crowded for room inside FAVOURITE RETURN. In the early part of the Straight, SCREAMING EAGLE, which was inclined to lay in, had difficulty obtaining clear running between DESERT STORM and BALL OF FIRE which was giving ground after travelling wide and without cover throughout. Near the 350 Metres, SCREAMING EAGLE was steadied away from the heels of BALL OF FIRE. In the early part of the Straight, SILVERBIRD was held up for clear running and near the 250 Metres was shifted to the outside of LIFELINE RAPIDE to go forward. Also in the early part of the Straight, SOUND OF SILENCE was held up behind HAPPY KID and SUPER. GLOBAL FORTUNE also had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 100 Metres, TRIUMPH, which was commencing to give ground, was momentarily awkwardly placed on the heels of GLOBAL FORTUNE which shifted out. Near the 50 Metres, FAT DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of DESERT STORM which shifted in. MURCIELAGO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MURCIELAGO after the race did not show any significant findings. LIFELINE RAPIDE and SILVERBIRD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SILVERBIRD had lost its right hind plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 10 January 2005)
SCREAMING EAGLE was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SCREAMING EAGLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
