Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, MASTER ABLE reared high, bumped its head on a bar above its stall and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. MASTER ABLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MASTER ABLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had an abrasion to the forehead. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER ABLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THE LAVISH LAD was slow to begin. In the early stages, MASTER MARAUDER whilst being ridden along to go forward hung in. At the 700 Metres, HAPPY WINNING was bumped by SILVER MARK. In the early part of the Straight, CENTURY SUPER STAR hung in. After the 200 Metres, SILVER MARK was steadied and shifted to the inside of HAPPY KID to continue going forward. Near the 100 Metres, THAT'S IT got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of CENTURY SUPER STAR. When questioned, Apprentice H W Lai (HAPPY WINNING) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in midfield. He said HAPPY WINNING began awkwardly and lost a little ground. He said as a result of this AURELIAN which had drawn to his outside began better than him. He said that horse was then ridden along to go forward and as he was instructed to race midfield on HAPPY WINNING he did not ride along in an attempt to hold that horse out. He said as a consequence AURELIAN shifted in to a position with cover in midfield at about the 1000 Metres and HAPPY WINNING raced slightly further back than anticipated. S Dye (HAWKIE STAR) said the intention had been to ride the horse in about 4th position. He said after being boxed HAWKIE STAR lunged forward and hit its head on the front gates, then was slow to begin and as a consequence he elected to ride the horse further back than intended. He said HAWKIE STAR travelled well until after the 800 Metres, however, when he asked it to quicken slightly it failed to respond. He said after the 600 Metres HAWKIE STAR again picked up the bit and commenced to travel better, however, when placed under pressure prior to straightening did not respond to his riding. He said over the final 200 Metres he felt HAWKIE STAR became unbalanced in its action and short in its stride. HAWKIE STAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of HAWKIE STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HAWKIE STAR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAWKIE STAR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ENRICHING and SILVER MARK were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported SILVER MARK had lost its right front plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 June 2005)
HAWKIE STAR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. HAWKIE STAR was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D A Hayes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be stiff and restricted in its forelimb action. As previously advised, HAWKIE STAR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
