Racing Incident Report

GENKI KING was withdrawn on 13.9.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter KONRAD THE GREAT. Before being allowed to race again, GENKI KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THE ONLY ONE began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. On jumping, SILVERBIRD was steadied when crowded for room between ONE STEP AHEAD and NEW MILESTONE, both of which shifted ground. Near the 1100 Metres, NEW MILESTONE and ONE STEP AHEAD bumped. Shortly afterwards, ONE STEP AHEAD was bumped by PROGRESSING TIMES which shifted out. At the 800 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD was steadied when crowded for room inside NEW MILESTONE which was carried in slightly by MANIFEST which shifted in when barely clear. No action was taken. When ONE STEP AHEAD steadied, AMO, which was following, was steadied in consequence. On straightening, KONRAD THE GREAT was carried wider by SILVERBIRD which shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of TAKING THE LEAD. Near the 100 Metres, MANIFEST, which was giving ground, was bumped by NEW MILESTONE which shifted in. Throughout the race, HEALTHY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. O Doleuze (TAKING THE LEAD) explained from a wide draw he had been instructed to ride the horse a little further back than usual, however, to do his utmost to find the fence. He said after beginning well he immediately took hold of TAKING THE LEAD with the hope of allowing some runners on his inside to go forward to enable him to shift in. He said AMO which had drawn immediately inside him also came back shortly after the start and he was obliged to go further back than intended to shift in as instructed. He said TAKING THE LEAD travelled comfortably and in the Straight responded well to his riding, however, after the 200 Metres he had to momentarily steady his mount and shift to the outside of PROGRESSING TIMES to continue going forward. HEALTHY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HEALTHY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be a "roarer". PROGRESSING TIMES, DRAGON AND GOLD and ENGINEERING WONDER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported AMO had lost its left front plate.
