Racing Incident Report

Prior to the running of Race 1, it was noted HAPPY KID had shifted its right hind plate while in the holding stalls. This plate was reset and HAPPY KID was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, it was noted the tongue tie fitted to HAPPY CRUSADER had loosened. Before HAPPY CRUSADER was loaded, the tongue tie was refitted. KING OF SPADES was slow to begin. From the outside gate, GLORIOUS RHYTHM, after being awkwardly, was immediately shifted across behind runners. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, KING OF SPADES was steadied when crowded for room inside GLORIOUS RHYTHM which when being ridden along to improve its position was carried in slightly by MASTERY. No action was taken. At the 1300 Metres, AURELIAN was crowded for room inside MILLION SUCCESS which shifted in when being steadied away from the heels of HAPPY CRUSADER (D Whyte) which shifted in when not quite clear. D Whyte was advised to exercise more care. When MILLION SUCCESS and AURELIAN were crowded for room, LIVERBIRD, which was following, shifted in away from those horses and caused crowding to CHINOOK which became unbalanced. In the early part of the Straight, MILLION SUCCESS got its head on the side and was inclined to hang in. Throughout the race, SUNNY DESERT raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground, finishing tailed out. The Stewards believed the performance of SUNNY DESERT to be unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SUNNY DESERT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUNNY DESERT and HAPPY CRUSADER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY DESERT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, HAPPY CRUSADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a substantial amount of mucopus in its trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY CRUSADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LIVERBIRD, HAPPY KID and AURELIAN were sent for sampling.
