Racing Incident Report

HAPPY ELITE was withdrawn on 17.1.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOLDEN FARM (Apprentice C K Tong). Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY ELITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DRAGON INN was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, OKEYDOKEY was steadied and shifted across behind runners. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, DRAGON INN was steadied when racing tight inside AMO. At the 900 Metres, AMO was checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOP SCORER which shifted in slightly. At the 800 Metres, SIR OCTAVIUS, which was proving difficult to settle, was carried wider by SUPREME CLASS. After this, SIR OCTAVIUS raced wide and without cover. In the middle stages, INSIDE MAIL and OKEYDOKEY proved difficult to settle. Near the 250 Metres, AMO was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between GOLDEN FARM and SUPER FIGHTER which shifted in. After the 200 Metres, OKEYDOKEY shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of INSIDE MAIL. Throughout the race, CAPE PRINCE raced wide and without cover. F Coetzee (SUPREME CLASS) explained when the blindfold was removed from the horse in the barriers, it immediately became fractious and threw its head about. He said SUPREME CLASS was leaning against the inside gate of its stall when the start was effected and as a consequence was slow to begin. He said this caused SUPREME CLASS to get further back than was intended. He said he immediately shifted to the inside of SIR OCTAVIUS and attempted to improve his position, however, SUPREME CLASS took time to muster speed and a number of runners crossed in front of him. He said after entering the Back Straight SUPREME CLASS, because it had been ridden along, commenced to over-race and near the 900 Metres was checked away from the heels of BEAUTY PLUS. He said SUPREME CLASS continued to over-race and whilst making ground in the Straight because of the circumstances had been left with too much to do. SUPREME CLASS, SUPER PRINCE and SUPER FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
