Racing Incident Report

CLASSIC HORSE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CONQUEROR. On jumping, FLASH HARRY knuckled and lost ground. CAN OPENER was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground after making contact with the hindquarters of PEARL OF INDIA. Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, CAN OPENER got its head up when proving difficult to settle. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, FLASH HARRY got its head on the side, hung in and made contact with CONQUEROR. Shortly after this, CONQUEROR was steadied away from the heels of JOYFUL WORLD which shifted out, causing FLASH HARRY to be carried out which resulted in crowding to CAN OPENER which bumped HAPPY CRUSADER. After this, HAPPY CRUSADER travelled wide and without cover. Making the Home Turn, PEARL OF INDIA lay out and shifted wider on the track. For some distance approaching the 300 Metres, FLASH HARRY was held up when racing behind ALWAYS ZIETEN which was commencing to give ground. Then near the 200 Metres, FLASH HARRY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SMART FELLOW which shifted in. At the 300 Metres, CLASSIC HORSE was shifted to the outside of JOYFUL WORLD to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, CLASSIC HORSE hung in. PEARL OF INDIA, ALWAYS ZIETEN and BIG WINNER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PEARL OF INDIA and BIG WINNER were examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in both horses' tracheas. Before being allowed to race again, PEARL OF INDIA and BIG WINNER will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of ALWAYS ZIETEN after the race did not show any significant findings. SMART FELLOW, TERRAFERMA and CLASSIC HORSE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported JOYFUL WORLD had sustained multiple laceration wounds to the right hind cannon and heel.
