Racing Incident Report

HONG KONG LAD was withdrawn on 21.11.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOLDEN STRIDE (Apprentice K T Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, HONG KONG LAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN STRIDE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SURE HERO which also shifted in at the start. PROGRESSING TIMES was slow to begin. PROFIT HILL was slow to begin and then was hampered shortly after the start when CLASSA SUPREME shifted in. GANBARIA shifted in at the start and bumped SHINING DRAGON. Near the 1100 Metres, GANBARIA shifted in, causing SHINING DRAGON and CLASSA SUPREME to be hampered. Making the first turn, SHINING DRAGON was steadied when awkwardly placed between CLASSA SUPREME and GANBARIA, both of which shifted ground. At the 1000 Metres, CLASSA SUPREME got its head on the side and hung out towards the heels of GANBARIA. PROFIT HILL, which was following, was checked to avoid the heels of CLASSA SUPREME, shifted out and became awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHINING DRAGON. Also at the 1000 Metres, SURE HERO got its head up and hung out across the heels of DR POSSI. Passing the 900 Metres, CLASSA SUPREME got its head up when being restrained behind GANBARIA. Passing the 800 Metres, GOLDEN STRIDE shifted out away from PALIO KING. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CHERISHED was crowded for room inside PROGRESSING TIMES which got its head on the side and shifted in away from PALIO KING which itself shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRASS HOPPER. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Passing the 100 Metres, SHINING DRAGON shifted in and bumped BEAUTY PLUS which also shifted out slightly. Close to the finish line, D Whyte, the rider of BEAUTY PLUS, was obliged to stop riding his mount due to SHINING DRAGON shifting in. Both GRASS HOPPER and DR POSSI travelled wide and without cover throughout the race. When questioned, O Doleuze (SHINING DRAGON) stated after having to steady his mount making the first turn, SHINING DRAGON commenced to over-race and for this reason he allowed BEAUTY PLUS to shift in in front of him at the 800 Metres and obtained cover behind that horse rather than continued to race inside that horse. He added after obtaining cover, SHINING DRAGON although inclined to still over-race somewhat did travel better and was able to finish the race off. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PALIO KING, G Mossé stated at its most recent start he was able to ride PALIO KING from the rear. He said tonight the horse began very well and took up a more forward position and he felt it would be best to leave the horse where it was comfortable rather than restrain the horse. He did say in hindsight he might have been better served by restraining the horse as in his opinion it races best when held up for a final run. DR POSSI and PALIO KING were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DR POSSI and PALIO KING after the race did not show any significant findings. BEAUTY PLUS, PROGRESSING TIMES and SHINING DRAGON were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported GOLDEN STRIDE had lost its right front plate.
