Racing Incident Report
From a wide barrier, RAMPANT LION was allowed to drift back in the early stages to obtain a position with cover. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HAPPY KID failed to muster speed. At the 900 Metres, DEVON FLAIR and COP HILL LAD were steadied when crowded for room inside COUNTRY MAGIC (B Prebble) which shifted in when not properly clear. B Prebble was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. FORTUNE WHEEL made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly and hung out. In the middle and latter stages, COP HILL LAD and DEVON FLAIR raced wide and without cover. Shortly after straightening, AMAZING WIN was steadied and shifted to the outside of COP HILL LAD into clear running. After the 400 Metres, DEERFIELD was steadied when having difficulty obtaining clear running between DEVON FLAIR and AMAZING WIN. For a considerable distance after the 300 Metres, CROWNED GEM was held up and unable to improve, then over the final 100 Metres was again unable to obtain clear running. At the 150 Metres, DR CANDY was bumped by COUNTRY MAGIC which was shifted wider on the track away from the heels of DRAGON AND GOLD which drifted out at this time. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Just prior to the winning post, GENERAL SPEEDEE was steadied when awkwardly placed between DEERFIELD and FANTASTIC WIN. H K Yim (COP HILL LAD) said he had been instructed to endeavour to obtain a good position with the horse which was racing first up from a spell today. He said COP HILL LAD began well, he rode his mount along in an endeavour to ensure it obtained a good position as in the past it had often failed to muster speed. He said COP HILL LAD surprised him with the speed it showed today and travelled further forward than anticipated. DR CANDY, DRAGON AND GOLD and COUNTRY MAGIC were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported CROWNED GEM was lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, CROWNED GEM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
