Racing Incident Report

BIG KAHUNA and BAAZIGAR were taken across behind runners in the early stages. At the 1400 Metres, LAZY BUDDIES was unable to maintain its position despite being ridden along between BIG KAHUNA and THREE CLUBS. For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, TATTENHALL DELIGHT was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER BALL. After the 1200 Metres, GALLANT KNIGHT was left racing wide without cover. For some distance after the 600 Metres, TATTENHALL DELIGHT was hampered and became unbalanced when crowded for room between SOUND OF SILENCE and SUPER BALL (S K Sit) which at this time shifted out away from the heels of WONDER KID which commenced to give ground. S K Sit was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. Approaching the 400 Metres, BAAZIGAR was steadied when being shifted out from behind WONDER KID which continued to give ground. In the early part of the Straight, TATTENHALL DELIGHT had difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 300 Metres, STEEL NERVES was steadied when disappointed for running between TATTENHALL DELIGHT and GALLANT KNIGHT which at this time was taken in slightly by THREE CLUBS. On two occasions after the 150 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT became unbalanced when jumping marks on the track. The performance of WONDER KID, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WONDER KID will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte (STEEL NERVES) was not able to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said STEEL NERVES travelled comfortably throughout the race, however, when placed under pressure in the Straight failed to respond to his riding. EMBRACES, STEEL NERVES, BAAZIGAR and TATTENHALL DELIGHT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of EMBRACES, STEEL NERVES and TATTENHALL DELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, BAAZIGAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BAAZIGAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THREE CLUBS and ARROGANCE were sent for sampling.
