Racing Incident Report

NOT QUITE PERFECT was withdrawn on 11.4.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (post-race stress) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SHINING DRAGON (O Doleuze). Before being allowed to race again, NOT QUITE PERFECT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAKE A MINT proved difficult to load, resulting in a delay to the start. After being boxed and due to the delay to the start, ABLE STANDARD became fractious, lunged forward and broke open the front gates of its stall. ABLE STANDARD was quickly reined in and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, MAKE A MINT and ABLE STANDARD will both have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. From the outside barrier, FAST WINNER was taken across behind runners. CARRY THE MAGIC began awkwardly and was slow into stride. THAT’S WIN began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, SINOSPIEL was bumped by ABLE STANDARD which shifted in. SPICY HOT began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, FANTASTIC WIN failed to muster speed. After the 1200 Metres, WATCHMAN blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CARRY THE MAGIC. In this incident, D Beadman (WATCHMAN) became badly unbalanced and sustained an injury to his left ribs which placed him at a disadvantage in riding his mount for the remainder of the race. After the race, D Beadman was examined by the Club's doctor who said he was not suitable to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. When being restrained to take a sit after the 1100 Metres, SHINING DRAGON proved difficult to settle, then making the turn at the 800 Metres got its head up and hung out. In the Straight, SPICY HOT hung out. E Saint-Martin (FAST WINNER) was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said he rode FAST WINNER quietly in an endeavour to have it finish the race off between horses as the horse had closed off strongly at its most recent start in between runners. He said today FAST WINNER travelled a little keenly for him in the run, however, was most disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding in the Straight. Y T Cheng (SUPER) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse further forward than is usual. He said he was issued these instructions because it appeared today's track better suited horses which were racing in forward positions. CASH MONEY and SUPER were sent for sampling.
