Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, WASABISABI became fractious and sat down behind, causing a delay to the start. During this delay, SUCCESSFUL ERA also became fractious, reared over backwards and broke out the back gates of its stall. SUCCESSFUL ERA was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SUCCESSFUL ERA. Before being allowed to race again, WASABISABI will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and SUCCESSFUL ERA will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN BAUHINIA and FLYING COLOURS, which were drawn either side of SUCCESSFUL ERA, were removed from their stalls and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion they were suitable to race. WASABISABI was slow to begin, then lost further ground when checked away from the heels of CLASSA FOR EVER which on jumping got its head up and shifted out abruptly. Apprentice M Chadwick (WASABISABI) explained after his mount met with interference at the start, the horse then failed to muster speed despite being ridden along and became detached from the field in the early stages. CLASSA FOR EVER then shifted further ground, bumped CHEERFUL CITY which in turn shifted ground and bumped BE MY SONG. Both CHEERFUL CITY and BE ME SONG became badly unbalanced. SPEED RACER was slow into stride. On jumping, BLESS US ALL got its head up. Passing the 600 Metres, CHEERFUL CITY was steadied away from the heels of BE MY SONG which shifted in slightly. For some distance after this, CHEERFUL CITY continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of BE MY SONG, then over the concluding stages hung out. After the 200 Metres, BE MY SONG was bumped by THE KID which for the major part of the race hung out and at this time shifted ground. THE KID continued to hang out for the remainder of the race and proved difficult to ride. When returning to scale following the race, GOLDEN BAUHINIA propped, causing W M Lai, its rider, to be dislodged. GOLDEN BAUHINIA and WASABISABI were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CLASSA FOR EVER was noted to have sustained a laceration to the left front upper cannon and BE MY SONG to have sustained an abrasion to the right hind hock. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSA FOR EVER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
