Racing Incident Report

Soon after the start, HEY HA MASTER was restrained for some distance before being taken across behind runners. At the 800 Metres, HIGH LUCK was steadied and became unbalanced when crowded for room inside CRISTAL MAGNUM which shifted in away from TELECOM SUPER STAR despite the efforts of its rider. Just prior to the finishing line, SURFER BOY was hampered and was obliged to be steadied away from the heels of CRISTAL MAGNUM (M Chadwick) which shifted in under pressure. HIGH LUCK, which was racing to the inside of SURFER BOY, shifted in away from that runner towards MARVEL PLUS. M Chadwick was reprimanded and advised to make more effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances. KINGSTON ELITE raced wide and without cover for the major part of the event. When questioned, J Lloyd stated that in its trials he had attempted to ride MARVEL PLUS quietly as the horse tends to race keenly and pull hard. He added that his instructions were to go forward from his outside barrier and attempt to find cover if possible. He stated however that MARVEL PLUS was slow to begin and after riding the horse along for a short distance, he felt that he was not in a position to obtain cover and might have been left racing wide. He said that he therefore allowed MARVEL PLUS to stride forward and cross to the lead as, in his view, the pace was only moderate in the early stages. He said that he was slightly disappointed with the finishing effort of MARVEL PLUS as it was a beaten horse well before the 200 Metres. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he was instructed to have CRISTAL MAGNUM in a forward position just behind the pace. He added however that CRISTAL MAGNUM began awkwardly and then received some crowding between TELECOM SUPER STAR and DANEWIN TIGER which shifted out. He said CRISTAL MAGNUM then raced in an awkward position inside the heels of TELECOM SUPER STAR for some distance which obliged him to steady CRISTAL MAGNUM after passing the 1000 Metres, resulting in that horse settling further back than was intended. MY GLORY and CRISTAL MAGNUM were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on TELECOM SUPER STAR and the Veterinary Officer reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, TELECOM SUPER STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
