Racing Incident Report

From wide barriers, SUNNY KING and TUSCAN SPIRIT were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 900 Metres, TAILWIND was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LEADING CITY. Passing the 800 Metres, RICH UNICORN proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. For some distance rounding the Home Turn, TAILWIND raced awkwardly inside the heels of TAI SING YEH and then near the 350 Metres was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between TAI SING YEH and VITAL FLYER which shifted out. Over the final 50 Metres, CERISE CHERRY was held up for clear running behind JOY AND FUN. Because of this, CERISE CHERRY was not ridden out to the end of the race. Throughout the race, TAI SING YEH travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned regarding his riding of ABLE ONE in the Straight, O Doleuze stated that rounding the Home Turn his mount got its head on the side and hung in towards the heels of RICH UNICORN. He said because of this he changed his whip from his left hand into his right hand. He said at the entrance to the Straight ABLE ONE was bumped on a number of occasions by AMIGO which shifted out to obtain clear running. He said in the Straight ABLE ONE and AMIGO continued to race tight as AMIGO shifted out and ABLE ONE lay in. He added because ABLE ONE was laying in, he did not change the whip back into his left hand. He said due to ABLE ONE racing tight to the outside of AMIGO, he was unable to use the whip on the horse and therefore not able to fully test ABLE ONE. O Doleuze was advised that he should, wherever circumstances permit, fully test his mounts so as to leave no room for query. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MULTIGLORY, M Chadwick stated that his mount travelled comfortably in the lead and he felt rounding the Home Turn that MULTIGLORY would show a turn of foot when asked. He said however that after LEADING CITY and DIM SUM improved to his outside near the 300 Metres, MULTIGLORY shortened stride and was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. Trainer A S Cruz stated that he was very disappointed with the performance of MULTIGLORY, particularly the manner in which it weakened out of the race over the final 300 Metres. A veterinary inspection of MULTIGLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MULTIGLORY, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MULTIGLORY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of TAI SING YEH after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of TAILWIND after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. MULTIGLORY, DIM SUM and SUNNY KING were sent for sampling.
