Racing Incident Report

LUCKY CHOICE began awkwardly and lost ground.
SPLENDID GUY was slow to begin.
When being taken across behind runners from a wide barrier, GENKI MOOCHI got its head up on a number of occasions.
After the 1200 Metres, COOL BEAN got its head on the side and shifted in, resulting in DANEWIN TIGER being momentarily hampered.
After the 600 Metres, GENKI MOOCHI got its head up when proving difficult to settle and awkwardly placed close to the heels of DRAGON PINS.
Also after the 600 Metres, EMPIRE CITY was bumped and taken wider by MARK TWO which shifted out into clear running.
Passing the 300 Metres, DRAGON PINS was momentarily steadied away from the heels of DANEWIN TIGER when disappointed for running between that horse and COUNTRY CHARM.
Throughout the race, COOL BEAN and EMPIRE CITY travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, T Clark stated that it had been intended for MARK TWO to be ridden in a forward position from barrier 10. He said however that after being fractious in the barriers and rearing, MARK TWO began only fairly and shortly after the start was bumped by FULGURITE which shifted in. He added a short distance later MARK TWO made contact with the hindquarters of COUNTRY CHARM when crowded for room between that horse and FULGURITE. He said because of these circumstances he elected, rather than continue to press forward on MARK TWO, to shift the horse across behind runners and obtain a position with cover. He said after obtaining a good run through the race, MARK TWO was then disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off the race. He said he recommended to connections that they consider stepping MARK TWO up in distance.
When questioned, D Whyte stated that he had been under no specific instructions on how to ride SUNNY PEARL from barrier 13. He said however that it had been decided between himself and Mr P O’Sullivan, the trainer of SUNNY PEARL, that the horse should not be ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position as it was at its first start in a race due to it being left racing wide in the early stages of that race. He said he shifted SUNNY PEARL across with runners in the early stages in the hope of being able to obtain a position in about midfield with cover, however, when a number of horses maintained their positions to the inside of SUNNY PEARL, he was left racing wide and for this reason he elected to steady SUNNY PEARL and shift in to a position closer to the rail with cover. He said this resulted in SUNNY PEARL racing at the rear of the field. He added SUNNY PEARL travelled well and in the early part of the Straight was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MARK TWO when being shifted out to obtain clear running. He said once it gained clear running near the 350 Metres, SUNNY PEARL then closed off the race strongly.
After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that LUCKY CHOICE had bled from both nostrils and that MOCHI was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MOCHI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SPLENDID GUY at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPLENDID GUY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MARK TWO and EMPIRE CITY after the race did not show any significant findings.
SUNNY PEARL, FLORAL MAN and DANEWIN TIGER were sent for sampling.
