Racing Incident Report

EUPHEMISM was slow to begin. TRACK LIGHTNING and BRILLIANT CHARIOT bumped at the start. From wide barriers, SOMETHING SPECIAL and SUPREME TYCOON were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BRILLIANT CHARIOT became unbalanced. Near the 1200 Metres, NICKU was left racing wide and without cover and after the 900 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead. When being steadied in the lead after the 1200 Metres, BILLION proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. Near the 1100 Metres, YUAN’S FORTUNE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOY STORY. At the entrance to the Straight, SUPREME TYCOON and HEI HEI POSH raced tight. At the 300 Metres, BRILLIANT CHARIOT was shifted in to obtain clear running after having to be steadied when disappointed for a run between NICKU and JOYFUL WINNER II. Passing the 300 Metres, SOMETHING SPECIAL momentarily raced tight inside TRACK LIGHTNING. Passing the 200 Metres, NICKU was eased when crowded for room between JOYFUL WINNER II which was racing tight to the inside of TOY STORY and BILLION which shifted out slightly under pressure. Over the concluding stages, JOYFUL WINNER II was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOY STORY. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of YUAN’S FORTUNE, C W Wong stated that, from barrier 3, he had been asked to position YUAN’S FORTUNE in midfield if possible. He said after riding his mount positively in the early stages he was able to obtain a position close to where he was instructed to settle. He said that approaching the 800 Metres he had to ride YUAN’S FORTUNE along to maintain its position between BRILLIANT CHARIOT and EUPHEMISM as YUAN’S FORTUNE was reluctant to hold its position between those horses. He said after this YUAN’S FORTUNE did not travel well and was under constant pressure in an attempt to improve its position. He added although YUAN’S FORTUNE was not able to obtain clear running over the final 100 Metres and because of this was not able to be ridden out, the horse was well beaten at this time. A veterinary inspection of YUAN’S FORTUNE after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of TRACK LIGHTNING after the race revealed that the horse had bled from both nostrils. BRILLIANT CHARIOT and SUPREME TYCOON were sent for sampling.
