Racing Incident Report

EASTERN EMPIRE, which had kicked a rail in the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the Start who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. HOW WONDERFUL began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by EUPHEMISM which shifted in after making contact with INDUSTRIAL LEGEND. Near the 1600 Metres, VICTORY MASCOT and ISTIDE momentarily raced in restricted room inside MOUNT VICTORY. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, MOUNT VICTORY was checked away from the heels of CONNOISSEUR’S PICK which was being steadied by its rider. When being checked away from the heels of CONNOISSEUR’S PICK, MOUNT VICTORY shifted in, resulting in ISTIDE and VICTORY MASCOT being crowded for room. For some distance after this, MOUNT VICTORY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CONNOISSEUR’S PICK. In the early and middle stages, CONNOISSEUR’S PICK travelled wide and without cover and after the 1000 Metres was allowed to stride forward to race outside the leader, EUPHEMISM. Approaching the 900 Metres, MOUNT VICTORY was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 900 Metres, EASY GOLD commenced to over-race and got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of EUPHEMISM for some distance. After the 800 Metres, ISTIDE was left racing wide and without cover. Shortly after entering the Straight, YOUNG HERO was steadied away from the heels of HOW WONDERFUL. On return to the scale, G Mossé (SPLENDID CHAMPION), who had weighed out with the allowable 2 lb overweight, was found to be an additional 1 lb overweight. After taking evidence from G Mossé, it was established that the girth which G Mossé weighed out with was ill-fitting which required the stable changing the girth which accounted for the additional overweight. G Mossé was told that it was his responsibility to ensure that the gear that he weighs out with is carried in a race and that any alteration to this gear must be notified to the Stewards prior to the race. Mr A S Cruz, the trainer of SPLENDID CHAMPION, will be advised of his responsibilities in respect of this matter. A veterinary inspection of ELEPHANT CHEERS after the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, ELEPHANT CHEERS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of INDUSTRIAL LEGEND after the race did not show any significant findings. MOUNT VICTORY, EASY GOLD and EUPHEMISM were sent for sampling.
