Racing Incident Report
BEAUTY LOYAL began awkwardly, resulting in its rider, C Y Ho, losing the use of his left stirrup iron for a short distance.
Near the 800 Metres, HONEST WAY was crowded for room inside BIG PARTY (G van Niekerk) which shifted in. G van Niekerk was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.
Passing the 700 Metres, AEROHAPPINESS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING OF HEARTS.
Near the 450 Metres, AEROHAPPINESS was shifted in away from the heels of BIG PARTY and HONEST WAY.
Approaching the 350 Metres, BEAUTY LOYAL was shifted out away from the heels of DIAMOND KING which raced tight outside BIG PARTY which got its head on the side and lay out away from HONEST WAY.
Near the 150 Metres, AEROHAPPINESS shifted out abruptly towards the heels of SPEEDY LUCK, resulting in its rider, J Moreira, having to check AEROHAPPINESS to prevent the horse from continuing to shift out.
In the Straight, SPEEDY LUCK raced with its head on the side and lay out under pressure.
For the majority of the race, DIAMOND KING travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the performance of BIG PARTY, G van Niekerk stated that the horse was somewhat disappointing, he believed that the manner in which the horse began the race had contributed to the horse’s performance. He said BIG PARTY was fractious in the barriers and reared prior to the start being effected and then as the gates opened missed the start and was crowded for room between SHOUSON and KING OF HEARTS which shifted out. He said he rode his mount along in an endeavour to make up lost ground, however, BIG PARTY was left racing in a three wide position making the turn near the 900 Metres. He said after the 850 Metres BIG PARTY lay in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of RACING FIGHTER and then continued to lay in and had to be steadied out away from the heels of RACING FIGHTER. He said whilst BIG PARTY was travelling satisfactorily, it did not travel strongly and after bumping DIAMOND KING near the 450 Metres BIG PARTY came off the bridle and commenced to hang out as it did in its barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race. He said BIG PARTY continued to hang out in the Straight and shifted towards the outside rail. He added he was reluctant to stop riding and straighten BIG PARTY as he felt that would break the horse’s momentum, therefore he allowed the horse to continue to shift out. He said although BIG PARTY drifted out under pressure, it finished off the race only fairly. A veterinary inspection of BIG PARTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BIG PARTY, MR CROISSANT and RACING FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
