Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the barriers, M de Montfort (CHINA RED) reported to the Veterinary Surgeon that on leaving the Parade Ring, the horse knocked its off side hip. CHINA RED was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He discussed its condition with Jockey Montfort who said that the horse felt free in its action and therefore the Veterinary Surgeon formed the opinion that CHINA RED was suitable to race. FORTUNE ASSOCIATES jumped awkwardly. BEAUTY FOUNTAIN missed the start, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of STERLING PERFORMER. The Stewards inquired into the reason for BEAUTY FOUNTAIN being checked approaching the winning post the first time. Evidence was taken from W Woods (BE MY HEART), Apprentice Y T Cheng (BEAUTY FOUNTAIN) and from E Legrix (FORTUNE ASSOCIATES). It was established that BEAUTY FOUNTAIN, which had drawn outside BE MY HEART, missed the start, then from more than 2 lengths behind BE MY HEART shifted to the inside of that horse and endeavoured to make ground between BE MY HEART and FORTUNE ASSOCIATES which was racing tight outside COMFORT. As BE MY HEART continued to shift over towards the rail, BEAUTY FOUNTAIN lost its running and was checked. The circumstances in this case were considered by the Stewards to be somewhat unique and in the circumstances whilst BEAUTY FOUNTAIN did lose its running, they formed the view that to find against W Woods in these circumstances being inappropriate and took no direct action, however, he was told it is important to exercise care at all times when shifting ground. An inquiry into the reason for STERLING PERFORMER (Apprentice C P Ting) and COMFORT (S Dye) falling near the 600 Metres, BRAVEHEART (E Saint-Martin) being severely checked, almost falling and being pulled up was conducted. Evidence was taken from Apprentice C P Ting, S Dye and E Saint-Martin. It was established that for some time in the lead up to the fall STERLING PERFORMER had been pulling hard, racing close to the heels of VIGOROSO. At about the 600 Metres, Apprentice C P Ting was unable to hold STERLING PERFORMER away from the hindquarters of VIGOROSO, STERLING PERFORMER clipped the heels of VIGOROSO, fell, bumped POWER HOUSE, causing that horse to become severely unbalanced and then when continuing to fall STERLING PERFORMER fell into the path of BRAVEHEART, causing that horse to be severely checked and pulled up. COMFORT, which was following, fell over the fallen STERLING PERFORMER. NICE MEMORIES and FORTUNE ASSOCIATES were severely checked. Inconvenience was also caused to BE MY HEART and to BEAUTY FOUNTAIN. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. Rounding the Home Turn, MILLENNIUM LEGEND was awkwardly placed on the heels of VIGOROSO.
