Racing Incident Report

KIMBO BELL was slow to jump, was then further inconvenienced when tight between ARRIBA-ARRIBA and ALBELA. OPTIC ELITE missed the start, was then inconvenienced when GALAPAGOS on jumping shifted out. Just after the start, OPTIC ELITE struck the heels of GALAPAGOS and knuckled. THE BEST WINNER left the gates very awkwardly with its head up, made the first turn awkwardly, got its head up and shifted out, then for some distance near the 200 Metres was awkwardly placed on the heels of OPTIC ELITE. Near the 800 Metres, KIMBO BELL, which was racing in an awkward position, got its head up when steadied from behind NON SEQUITUR. Rounding the Home Turn, KIMBO BELL got its head up when in a pocket behind ISLAND WEST TREBLE and tight inside PEGASUS STAR. Approaching the 200 Metres, NON SEQUITUR was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between CENTURY STAR and MUNDAHISH which was weakening. Also approaching the 200 Metres, ALBELA was shifted out in an endeavour to find running, but over about the last 200 Metres did not obtain clear running. Consequently, the horse was not properly tested out. About 100 Metres out, OPTIC ELITE raced tight for a short distance between PEGASUS STAR and NON SEQUITUR which was taken out slightly by CENTURY STAR. J Egan (GALAPAGOS) explained from an outside gate he had been instructed by the Trainer to ride the horse somewhere just off the lead if possible. He said however GALAPAGOS left the gates well and cleanly. He was unable to find a leader in the race and in the circumstances he considered it was in the best interests of GALAPAGOS to allow the horse to run along in front. NON SEQUITUR was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that NON SEQUITUR had sustained a laceration to the back of its near side hock.
