Racing Incident Report

W C Marwing, the declared rider for PREFECT, was excessively overweight. Permission was granted for W M Lai to be substituted. Subsequently W C Marwing was fined $2,000 for accepting a ride for which he was overweight. FASTEST STAR, which was not standing well, jumped very awkwardly, bumped the outside of its stall. MUGHAL PALACE was standing badly with its head turned slightly to the near side when the gates opened. Because of this, the horse came out a little slowly. Near the 600 Metres, MARSHALL SPIRIT and PREFECT brushed. Near the 400 Metres, NO MONEY NO HONEY was steadied and shifted out abruptly when disappointed for running between SUPER CENTURY and MASTER FAY. After the 400 Metres, HANDBAG DRAGON was shifted out abruptly across the heels of SUPER CENTURY to find running. For some distance near the 200 Metres, FASTEST STAR was unable to obtain running between MUGHAL PALACE and BULL'S EYE which was giving ground. Approaching the winning post, RED ZONE shifted in away from HANDBAG DRAGON, this caused some inconvenience to MASTER FAY. The Stewards allowed Mr P F Yiu, Trainer of WASABI, an opportunity of explaining the improved performance of the horse today. Mr Yiu said in recent times he has been having trouble with the near side front leg of WASABI, but lately this problem seemed to have lessened and he has been able to give the horse more work. He pointed out today WASABI was carrying a lower weight, racing over a distance that suited it, however, he did say the horse winning today was a surprise to him and before the race he had pointed out to the connections that WASABI, because of the extra work he has been able to give it, might run a better race today, but he was far from confident of success. The explanations submitted by Mr Yiu were on this occasion recorded. HANDBAG DRAGON was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
