Racing Incident Report

SPOT ON jumped awkwardly with its head up and shifted out. On leaving the gates, SAI KUNG STAR and SING SING SING bumped. SMILEY WIN missed the start slightly and was then further inconvenienced by FOR SZESZE which on leaving the gates shifted in abruptly. On jumping, BRILLIANT was checked rather severely when crowded between TIM'S TONIC which shifted out and ZENON LIGHT which shifted in. Then for a short distance early in the Straight, BRILLIANT was held up for a run. E Saint-Martin (SECOND OPINION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift inwards when not clear of APPLIED SUPREME. As a consequence of this APPLIED SUPREME lost its running, struck the heels of SECOND OPINION and knuckled. After the Stewards had taken full account of all the evidence, including the guilty plea submitted by E Saint-Martin, his attitude particularly over the concluding stages of the inquiry, they decided the appropriate penalty in this case was for E Saint-Martin to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 23 September 2001 on which day he may resume race racing (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday. About the 500 Metres, ARROWMINT was steadied when close to the heels of SING SING SING and tight on the inside of APPLIED SUPREME. In the Straight, ENERGETIC PRINCE raced ungenerously with its head up and hung in. S Baster (ZENON LIGHT) said the horse was having its first run for the stable tonight and whilst in the past it had travelled in a forward position, tonight he was instructed to settle ZENON LIGHT and endeavour to have the horse relaxed as in recent times it had been pulling very hard in its work. He said although he got back on the horse, it was not possible for him to settle it as he would have wished and ZENON LIGHT was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages. He did say it is thought ZENON LIGHT will race in future without the blinkers. ENERGETIC PRINCE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
