Racing Incident Report

Whilst being saddled, it was noted that the near side hind plate of VICTORY MARBLE had shifted. This was refitted before the horse was presented for the parade. On jumping, E Legrix (COLOURFUL ERA) bumped his left foot on the gates. When the gates opened, COMME D'HABITUDE stood flat-footed and lost a lot of ground. GREENMORE was a little slowly away, was then checked when crowded between DOLLARS AND SENSE and INDUBITABLY BLISS which after bumping with GOLCONDA shifted out abruptly. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. In the early stages, GOLCONDA pulled, proved very difficult to settle and raced in a forward position with its head up. COMME D'HABITUDE made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out onto the heels of SURPLUS and was checked. No action was taken. Near the 600 Metres, SURPLUS became unbalanced and lost its position when crowded between COURAGE STAR and HERO'S WAY. For some distance rounding the Home Turn, VIPER CORP was awkwardly placed close to the heels of COMME D'HABITUDE and to find running in the Straight, VIPER CORP was shifted out. In the Straight, DOLLARS AND SENSE hung in. R Fradd (COURAGE STAR) explained the horse travelled well in the run, but then did not stretch out as expected in the concluding stages. After the race, COURAGE STAR was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said he was unable to find any abnormalities. GOLCONDA was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
