Racing Incident Report
After arriving in the Parade Ring, it was noted that the fitting of the tongue tie on COSMO ONE was incorrect. This was rectified before the horse proceeded to the Start. A RUN OF LUCK jumped very awkwardly with its head up. TRIUMPHANT STAR left the gates badly and was further inconvenienced when crowded for room between BRILLIANT ATTORNEY and SPLENDID STAR which on jumping shifted out abruptly. D Whyte (GOLDEN AIR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that shortly after the start he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of TRAVELLER STAR. As a consequence of this, TRAVELLER STAR was taken across the running of JOINT PEACE which was crowded onto FAT CHOY TREASURE and checked. After the Stewards had deliberated on the matter and had taken full account of all the evidence and the submissions put by D Whyte including his guilty plea and his submissions regarding the history of GOLDEN AIR, it was decided that in this case the appropriate penalty was for his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Monday, 7 May 2001 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Wednesday. Throughout the race, GOLDEN SPIRIT hung out, in the run to the winning post hung out badly, as a consequence was not ridden out in the normal fashion. After the race, it was noted that SPLENDID STAR had lost its near side front plate. It is the intention of the Stewards to allow Apprentice S K Sit (TRIUMPHANT STAR) an opportunity of explaining the poor performance of the horse next Wednesday at Sha Tin.
