Racing Incident Report

GOOD RECORD was slowly away. EXCEL KID missed the start badly. Just after the start, LEGITIMATE and KINDRED SPIRITS were tightened for room between TAMBORA STAR which shifted out slightly and OPTICAL FAMILY which shifted in away from STOIC. In the early stages, STOIC over-raced and proved very difficult to settle as did KINDRED SPIRITS which would not settle, pulled and on several occasions shifted ground away from the heels of OPTICAL FAMILY. For a short distance on straightening, KINDRED SPIRITS was awkward on the heels of RACE TO HONOUR. About the 200 Metres, REBEL LEADER was disappointed for running between EXCEL KID and WINNING BOY which shifted out. To obtain running, REBEL LEADER was shifted in. About 50 Metres from the line, CENTURY HORSE was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of J Saimee (RACE TO HONOUR). When questioned, E Legrix (OPTICAL FAMILY) said he had been instructed by the Trainer primarily because of the track conditions to try and ride OPTICAL FAMILY in a forward position somewhere about 2nd or 3rd if possible. He said OPTICAL FAMILY left the gates well, he rode along for a short distance to ensure he took up a forward position as instructed, but thereafter did have some difficulty settling OPTICAL FAMILY and the horse was inclined to over-race. He went on to say on straightening OPTICAL FAMILY was bumped by CENTURY HORSE and he had to check off the heels of KINDRED SPIRITS. He said after this as OPTICAL FAMILY was well beaten, he did not ride the horse out as he normally would. In the circumstances, it was decided the explanations submitted by E Legrix be accepted. Before racing again, OPTICAL FAMILY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. REBEL LEADER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
