Racing Incident Report

Whilst leaving the Parade Ring, ORLANDO FLYER made contact with a rail. The horse was trotted up at the Start, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who discussed the situation with the rider and it was then decided ORLANDO FLYER was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, it was noted that SPRING LOVE had its tongue over the bit. This was adjusted before the horse was boxed. ORLANDO FLYER and SPRING LOVE were slowly away. SEA DRAGON PEARL left the gates very awkwardly with its head up. COSMO DRAGON missed the start and was then tailed off. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said COSMO DRAGON was coughing. An endoscopic examination revealed a significant amount of dirt in the throat area of the horse. The performance of the horse in the opinion of the Stewards was unacceptable and before being allowed to race again COSMO DRAGON will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. R Fradd (CHAMPION RANGER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that near the 1200 Metres he allowed CHAMPION RANGER to shift inwards on the track to be racing in a position beside DANZIG CONTINENTAL when not clear of SEA DRAGON PEARL. As a consequence of CHAMPION RANGER shifting in, SEA DRAGON PEARL lost its rightful running and was checked. After taking full account of all the evidence and the submissions put by R Fradd, the Stewards decided the appropriate penalty in this case was for his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday, 11 October 2001 on which day he may resume race racing (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Happy Valley next Wednesday night, 26 September 2001. About the 700 Metres, SPRING LOVE shifted out, this caused some inconvenience to ORLANDO FLYER. FLOWERS PRIDE, which had raced wide throughout, commenced to hang in rounding the Home Turn, continued to hang in in the Straight and proved difficult to ride out. Whilst the Stewards considered that the riding of Apprentice S K Sit (PROJECTVISION) in the run to the winning post did not affect the horse's finishing position and accordingly a breach of Rule 100(2) did not occur, they did however instruct Apprentice S K Sit he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. FLOWERS PRIDE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. On returning to scale, it was noted that the bandage on the off side hind leg of ORLANDO FLYER had loosened and slipped out. Subsequent to the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that FAIRY TALE was showing signs of lameness in its near side front leg. Before racing again, FAIRY TALE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
