Racing Incident Report

FAITHFUL ASSURANCE was slowly away and was then checked when tightened between STAR DRAGON which shifted in slightly and BELOVED PARTNER which on leaving the gates shifted out. About the 1200 Metres, INCA ROSE was steadied to avoid the heels of GOLDEN BELL which shifted in when only just clear. For some distance in the early part of the Straight, GLASGOW KISS was held up for running behind GOLDEN BELL and tight inside SUPER COMBINATION. GLASGOW KISS was able to obtain running about 200 Metres out. Also for some distance in the early part of the Straight, GOLDEN BELL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HOLY QUEST and tight inside INCA ROSE. About the 200 Metres, SUPER COMBINATION shifted out. As a consequence of this, HAPPY ECLIPSE was crowded onto the hindquarters of BELOVED PARTNER. Just after this incident, SUPER COMBINATION shifted in abruptly away from BELOVED PARTNER and bumped GLASGOW KISS. Y T Cheng (INCA ROSE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that about the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of GOLDEN BELL. As a consequence of this, GOLDEN BELL was crowded onto HOLY QUEST, lost its running and was checked. Y T Cheng was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 17 December 2001 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting next Wednesday night at Sha Tin. After the 200 Metres, CHEVAL D'OR was steadied and shifted out to avoid SOUNDS GOOD. S Dye (JUMBO LUCK) said the trainer had told him the horse would be able to take up a position in the race if it was used up. However, he said he was instructed not to make too much use of the horse in the early stages if possible. He said JUMBO LUCK left the gates satisfactorily, then in the early stages he was caught wide and elected to steady and follow HAPPY ECLIPSE which he thought was a chance in the race. He did go on to say by doing this he got much further out of his ground than he would have wished and acknowledged in this race JUMBO LUCK was too far back, however, he was anxious to point out over the concluding stages JUMBO LUCK did not finish as he thought it would and despite having an easy run in the early stages was somewhat disappointing. B Marcus (LIGHTMASTER) said he had ridden the horse in work on Thursday and whilst this work was satisfactory it was far from outstanding. It was pointed out to him however by the trainer LIGHTMASTER on the track was not wearing its blinkers and this might have been a reason for the ordinary work. He said today he was instructed to try and have LIGHTMASTER in a forward position. He said the horse left the gates well, he was able to take up a position towards the front as instructed, but LIGHTMASTER only travelled for about the first 200 Metres of the race and was well beaten before straightening. He said the run was very disappointing and he was unable to put forward any tangible explanation for it. The performance of LIGHTMASTER was considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable and before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN BELL was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
