Racing Incident Report
CHAMPION SPEED was withdrawn on 8.6.02 on veterinary grounds (lame off fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter OH GREAT (S Dye). Before racing again, CHAMPION SPEED will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. The start of the race was delayed as NATURAL ECHO was difficult to load into the starting stalls. NATURAL ECHO was then slowly away, raced greenly with its head up in the early stages and hung out badly on the first turn. Before NATURAL ECHO can run again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. OH GREAT left the gates very awkwardly, then in the early stages was reluctant to stretch out. On jumping, JUST MERRY and THE ONLY ONE came together. In the middle stages, JUST MERRY, which was racing greenly, shifted ground. As a consequence of this, THE ONLY ONE was inconvenienced and was steadied. In the Straight, JOLLY GAINS hung in and proved difficult to ride out. The performance of FIRST KNIGHT which tailed out was considered to be unacceptable and before the horse can run again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. STRONG SUN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
