Racing Incident Report

ROUND THE WORLD left the gates awkwardly, shifted out and bumped VICTORY MOUNT. Turning out of the Straight the first time, CENTURY STAR was steadied when crowded for room between FLAGS UP and ARROGANCE which was taken in slightly by SPLENDID PATROL (Apprentice M W Leung). Apprentice M W Leung was reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care. For some distance approaching the Home Turn, CENTURY STAR had trouble obtaining running between FLAGS UP and RACE TO HONOUR. Then near the 400 Metres, CENTURY STAR was awkward when close to the heels of ALF. For some distance after the 400 Metres, RACE TO HONOUR was held up behind MR BASKETBALL and tight inside VICTORY MOUNT. The performance of COMMON PLACE was considered unacceptable. Before it can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When asked about the improved performance of WATCH ME WIN, Mr T W Leung, trainer, said since the horse's previous run he has done little work with WATCH ME WIN. The horse had run on the All Weather Track when it was very young. He did point out WATCH ME WIN has a pedigree which suggests it should handle the all weather surface and because of this he was hoping it would today. Mr Leung said he had endeavoured to engage W Woods for the ride as he had ridden it at its last start, but was unable to do so, he then tried to engage A Marcus but without success and as a consequence asked H K Yim to ride WATCH ME WIN. Mr Leung assured the Stewards in recent runs the horse has been going into the races well, but has clearly been very disappointing. F Coetzee (CHINESESPORT GLORY) said he was told by the trainer before the race if possible he should lead, but if not he should certainly be in the first 2 or 3. He said he was not able to lead, but CHINESESPORT GLORY settled in a forward position outside the leader and he did think the horse was travelling comfortably. He went on to say however when ARROGANCE challenged him near the 800 Metres, he pushed CHINESESPORT GLORY along in an endeavour to keep it out and then as soon as ARROGANCE went by him and crossed CHINESESPORT GLORY, the horse commenced to give ground. ARROGANCE was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
