Racing Incident Report
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in until they considered whether FORTUNE BUILDER had been denied a fair start. After viewing the videos of the start, it was established that FORTUNE BUILDER reared as the gates opened and consequently lost a significant amount of ground. In these circumstances, FORTUNE BUILDER was deemed to be a starter. Before FORTUNE BUILDER can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Also before weighed-in was semaphored, Y T Cheng, the rider of WISHES, and Mr S T Wong, trainer of the horse, sought permission to view the official videos in the Home Straight as they were of the opinion there may have been grounds for them to lodge a protest/objection against the second placegetter. After viewing these films, Y T Cheng lodged a protest/objection against ELITE WIN (W M Lai) being declared the second placegetter, alleging interference over the last 200 Metres. The Stewards considered whilst ELITE WIN shifted in near the 200 Metres, causing WISHES to be taken in, they did not consider, bearing in mind the three quarters of a length margin between the two horses at the finish, that WISHES would have finished in front of ELITE WIN had the interference which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the protest/objection was overruled and the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. Further the Stewards were of the opinion the protest/objection lodged by Y T Cheng was frivolous and as such ordered the deposit to be forfeited. From the outside gate, MISSION POSSIBLE was obliged to race wide without cover throughout and in the Straight dropped out. At the 1200 Metres, HORSE AROUND was steadied when crowded for room by MR PRESIDENT which was taken in by SONG FOR SZESZE which got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly. At the 600 Metres, SUPER SIXTY-SIX was steadied to avoid the heels of HORSE AROUND which shifted in when giving ground. HORSE AROUND continued to give ground and dropped out. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon examined HORSE AROUND. He said the horse lost its right hind plate and sustained a wound to the lateral heel and also a small wound to the back of the left fore fetlock. The performance of HORSE AROUND was considered to be unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after straightening, ELITE WIN was bumped by MR PRESIDENT which shifted in. After this, ELITE WIN changed course and shifted to the inside of CHARIOT OF WEI HAI to obtain clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres, SONG FOR SZESZE was bumped by A CANDY which was taken out slightly by MR PRESIDENT. At the 200 Metres, SUPER SIXTY-SIX was checked when disappointed for running inside WISHES which had been carried in slightly by ELITE WIN. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. FRAT RAT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. The Veterinary Officer examined FRAT RAT following the race. An endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the trachea. Before FRAT RAT can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. CHARIOT OF WEI HAI and ELITE WIN were sent of sampling.
