Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, DONGGUAN VICTORY became fractious and broke open the front gates of its stall. DONGGUAN VICTORY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Before DONGGUAN VICTORY can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. At the start, LUCKY VICTORIES and FANTASTIC SHADOW bumped. Shortly after the start, DONGGUAN VICTORY was steadied when momentarily crowded by SUNNY DESERT. FORTUNE BUILDER, which was to be ridden quietly today from the outside barrier, began awkwardly, then was immediately steadied, taken back and shifted across behind runners to race on the rail but at the rear. Over the concluding stages, SUNNY DESERT shifted out under pressure. Whilst the Stewards considered the riding of R Fradd (FANTASTIC SHADOW) in the run to the line did not affect the horse's finishing position, they did however advise him he must ride all mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. Y T Cheng (TELECOM BABE) said today he had been instructed to ride the horse midfield with cover. He pointed out TELECOM BABE was racing with a visor instead of blinkers which it had carried at its recent starts. He said with the drop back to 1400 Metres today, he left the gates quietly on TELECOM BABE, the horse immediately dropped the bit and got further back than was anticipated, and he actually had to ride the horse along somewhat near the 800 Metres to maintain his position. He said in the Straight TELECOM BABE closed the race off strongly. Trainer Y O Wong confirmed the riding instructions and said when racing in blinkers at its two most recent starts, TELECOM BABE had over-raced and consequently failed to finish the race off. He therefore changed the blinkers for a visor today and said the intention was to have the horse race with cover in the hope it would be able to close the race off. Mr Wong said TELECOM BABE was further back than intended, however, he accepted Y T Cheng's explanations for this. AHEAD A HEAD, WINNING SUNSHINE and SUNNY DESERT were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FANTASTIC SHADOW had sustained a small cut to its right hind pastern.
