Racing Incident Report

CENDAMY, which was standing with its head turned to the right hand side, began awkwardly, bumped the inside of its gate and lost ground at the start. WINNING LAURELS was slow to begin. HAPPY CONTENDER began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. After the 300 Metres, SIGHT CHAMPION was initially disappointed for running between EVEN TILDEN which was commencing to give ground and SALUT BEAUTE. SIGHT CHAMPION was then shifted to the inside of SALUT BEAUTE and endeavoured to improve between that horse and STRONG GALLOP (A Delpech), however, was again disappointed for running near the 200 Metres. For some distance after this, SIGHT CHAMPION was continually held up behind SALUT BEAUTE and on the outside of STRONG GALLOP which shifted out whilst being ridden along. A Delpech was advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. Almost right on the winning post, SALUT BEAUTE and EVER MORE brushed. Apprentice M W Leung (WINNING LAURELS) said the horse was slow to begin, then in the early stages despite his riding failed to muster speed. He said he continued to ride WINNING LAURELS along and whilst it felt sound in its action, it did not quicken and near the 400 Metres became momentarily unbalanced. He said after passing the winning post WINNING LAURELS coughed and on pulling up appeared to be blowing hard. He added he had ridden WINNING LAURELS in a gallop last Friday on the track and in his opinion this work was only "so so". WINNING LAURELS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, WINNING LAURELS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. No significant findings were made. W Woods (RECOVERY) said the horse had been working well leading into today's race and was fancied by the stable. He said during the parade RECOVERY became "fizzed up" and was very unsettled. He said however the horse then went to the barrier in a calm manner and was relaxed whilst parading behind the stalls. He said on jumping he immediately took hold of RECOVERY in an endeavour to ride it with cover as instructed and was able to obtain a position behind MAJIN BUU in the early stages. He said the horse travelled satisfactorily until about the 500 Metres and then it became apparent to him that it would not figure in the finish of today's race. He was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's performance other than saying in his opinion it would be better suited by distances of further than today's 1000 Metres. RECOVERY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of RECOVERY after the race did not show any significant abnormalities. EVER MORE and SALUT BEAUTE were sent for sampling.
