Racing Incident Report

Immediately following the race, the Starter advised the Stewards there was a momentary delay in the gates opening after he had pressed the starting mechanism. The Stewards viewed the video footage of the start and were of the opinion that no runner had had an unfair start as a result of this momentary delay. These barriers were re-checked prior to the start of Race 3 which was the next occasion they were used. As the gates opened, MONETARY STAR reared, dislodged its rider, Apprentice M W Leung, and took no part in the race. As this was the second successive occasion on which MONETARY STAR had performed in this manner, the Stewards advised Trainer B K Ng the horse will have to perform satisfactorily in a series of successive official barrier trials before racing again. WINNING WAYS began awkwardly and blundered. When the gates opened, LAZY BUDDIES bounded in the air. Near the 800 Metres, UNIVERSAL PIONEER raced tight inside JUST VICTORY (A Delpech) which was endeavouring to shift in. Then after bumping with UNIVERSAL PIONEER, JUST VICTORY shifted out and bumped LAZY BUDDIES which as a result became unbalanced. A Delpech was severely reprimanded and told he must at all times allow other runners to maintain their rightful running. On straightening, WINNING WAYS was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between LADY BUDDIES and ASIA STAR, then in the Straight hung in and proved difficult to ride. UNIVERSAL PIONEER and PERFECT SCORE were sent for sampling.
