Racing Incident Report
EAST OCEAN DRAGON was difficult to load. This caused a delay to the start. Before EAST OCEAN DRAGON can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. FLASH MAC began awkwardly and got its head up. Shortly after the start, TELECOM BABE was crowded for room between RENA'S WUNDERBAR and SPINNING CITY which got its head on the side and shifted out. At the 1300 Metres, SMART CHIEF was steadied away from the heels of REAL WINNER which was racing ungenerously and shifted in. At the 800 Metres, BEAMING RIVER shifted out when hanging. REAL WINNER, which was following, clipped the heels of BEAMING RIVER and blundered. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, MARIPOSA was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Near the 200 Metres, MARIPOSA shifted to the outside of THE RICH MAN in an endeavour to obtain a run. FANTASTIC WIN, which was following, was steadied and shifted to the inside of MARIPOSA. After the 200 Metres, SPINNING CITY was shifted to the inside of TELECOM BABE to find clear running and go forward. Y T Cheng said TELECOM BABE was having its first start with blinkers today and he was instructed to ride the horse in 3rd, 4th or 5th position. He said TELECOM BABE began well from a wide barrier and he initially rode along in an endeavour to get in, however, TELECOM BABE then proved difficult to settle and as EAST OCEAN DRAGON to his inside did not continue forward, he thought in the circumstances his best option was to allow TELECOM BABE to press forward and lead. He said after reaching the lead, he endeavoured to steady TELECOM BABE in front. Mr Y O Wong, trainer of TELECOM BABE, confirmed the instructions issued to Y T Cheng. CLASSA VICTORY and SMART CHIEF were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SMART CHIEF had lost its left hind plate.
