Racing Incident Report

HOROSCOPE and SEASONS TREASURE were slow to begin. On jumping, MAGICAL WARRIOR and BLUE STITCH bumped. Near the 1300 Metres, CHEERS WINNER, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when close to the heels of GRAND FIGHTER. After the 900 Metres, TRIUMPHANT FEELING was steadied when crowded for room by LUCKY STALLION which got its head on the side and shifted in away from STRONGHEART. Some inconvenience was caused to SPRINTER. For some distance near the 300 Metres, CHEERS WINNER was held up and unable to obtain clear running between GRAND FIGHTER and MAGICAL WARRIOR. G Schofield (SPRINTER) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse around midfield and if possible to make his run in the Home Straight down the outside. He said SPRINTER began well and in the early stages he was awkwardly positioned close to the heels of LUCKY STALLION which was shifting ground while hanging and between TRIUMPHANT FEELING and BLUE STITCH. He said at the 800 Metres he steadied his mount when tightened for room inside BLUE STITCH and then BEAR SUPREMO immediately improved on his outside to hold him in. He said it became obvious to him at this time it was going to be difficult for him to shift out, he therefore elected to shift back to the fence and follow TRIUMPHANT FEELING which was improving its position. He said on straightening it was apparent there was no opportunity for him to shift to the outside as instructed, so he remained racing on the fence in the hope of obtaining clear running and when placed under pressure, SPRINTER did commence to close the race off strongly. He said however at the 200 Metres he checked his mount when disappointed for running between CHEERS WINNER and MAGICAL WARRIOR and shortly after this that run presented itself to him and the horse continued to close the race off strongly. G Schofield acknowledged he had ridden SPRINTER contrary to instructions, however, he said this was solely because of the manner in which the race was run. The explanations submitted by G Schofield were accepted. BEAR SUPREMO, BLUE STITCH and ENTERTAINING were sent for sampling.
