Racing Incident Report

JOYFUL STAR was slow to begin, then from a wide barrier was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout. AMICABLE was difficult to load and then after being boxed became fractious. Before being allowed to race again, AMICABLE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. AMICABLE and HAPPY CHAMP began awkwardly. After the 800 Metres, SUPRA SMART KID was steadied away from the heels of TIRAMISU which steadied in front. Shortly after straightening, ENERGETIC PRINCE was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between SUPRA SMART KID and JOYFUL STAR. After the 300 Metres, EXCELLENCE was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of JOYFUL STAR which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, EXCELLENCE hung out. K C Tsang (SIGHT FIRST) said at no stage of the race did the horse stride out. He said at about the 100 Metres when he was easing SIGHT FIRST down, it made an abnormal breathing noise. He said after the race SIGHT FIRST appeared sound in its action. SIGHT FIRST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, SIGHT FIRST was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. The performance of SIGHT FIRST, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SIGHT FIRST will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PRIZES TREASURE and MIGHTY HUGO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 26 May 2003) :
After the race, SIGHT FIRST, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SIGHT FIRST was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer L Fownes yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was stiff in both hind legs. As previously advised, SIGHT FIRST will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
